Cullen Cocktails: Toast To Twilight!

Midnight on November 18th marks the long-awaited premier of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part I. For those of you who haven’t guessed, I have a bit of a vampire fetish. I will admit that I watch True Blood and The Vampire Diaries. I even loved that canceled series Moonlight. And, yes, I really love Twilight. I’ve read all the books multiple times (that isn’t saying much as they are an easy read) and went to the midnight showing of the original Twilight movie three years ago. Although, I am too embarrassed to admit how many times I have seen that movie. The romance of Edward and Bella is timeless, and at times, co-dependent.

The premier of Breaking Dawn is a great opportunity to gather a group of friends and engage in some exciting pre-movie festivities. Celebrate the wedding of Edward and Bella, another great party thrown by Alice at the Cullen house. Experience the romance of Brazil on Edward and Bella’s honeymoon. Hold your breath in bated anticipation for the birth of the vampire-human hybrid baby Reneesme. Remember the crushing loss of the demise of your first love as Jacob mourns the loss of Bella. Anticipate the eventual arrival of Volturi.

In honor of Twilight, vampires and the wedding, here are our top five drinks for your Breaking Dawn party:

  • Shrinking Violet Champagne Cocktail – A beautiful, moody drink that is the perfect combination of Twilight and weddings.

  • Midnight Cocktail – No better way to make a toast in honor of the Cullen wedding than with champagne, midnight and sparkles!

  • Sidecar – This elegant, classic drink is almost as ancient as Edward and just as good-looking.

  • Caipirinha – Keep the wedding bliss going with Brazil’s national drink used to celebrate honeymoons.

  • Vampire’s Punch – Punch is a great idea at any party including weddings and this one is just bloody awesome!

According to lore, Drambuie is fit for a King. In fact, it was allegedly invented by a Prince of Scotland who would have been King of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland if his insurrection has succeeded. We are speaking of Prince Charles Stuart, whose lineage included many of the Kings of Scotland and a few in England after the two countries united under James Stuart in 1603. In 1745, Charles sailed to Scotland and with the aid of the Scottish Highlanders, a fierce bunch of men, began their quest to retake Scotland for a “Scottish King”. During this period, there was much strife in England and Scotland. In Scotland, it was the Highlanders versus the Lowlanders, who had benefited the most from the merger of England and Scotland. The Highlanders wanted to be left alone with their Scotch and were no fans of the heavy taxes levied on their fine beverage.

  • Kirkland Premium Small Batch Bourbon, Aged 7 Years Review

On a recent outing to Costco, we ran across a new item, the Kirkland Premium Small Batch Bourbon. You might be thinking, really, Costco is making bourbon now? Well, Costco isn’t really making bourbon; they sourced it from one of the distilleries and private labelled it. Given the price at $19.99, I was game to…
