  • 80 Strong Kentucky Straight Bourbon Review

“Think when you drink”! Truth be told! And when first I saw the bottle holding this amber nectar, that’s precisely what I did.

The presentation made for interesting expectations when I first opened this delicious looking bottle. My first impression, as the scent of 80 Strong hit me, was of something both sweet and exotic. Inviting. Like a deep leather couch and a warm fire.

Its fully-matured flavor is one of the most special I … Read more

Not me, but DOTW reader Tommy did, and in his own words says, “This drink sounds kinda gross, but TRUST ME IT’S NOT! =).” This cocktail made into Tommy’s personal recipe book, so it’s gotta be good. • Jameson Pub Award

The Local, an Irish Pub in Minneapolis, was honored recently by delegation from Dublin for selling the most Jameson on Earth. The Local, started by 2 Irish transplants sold nearly 400 cases of Jameson.

I would have thought my neighborhood Trader Joe’s would have been honored just on my purchases alone, but hats off to the Local for keeping the Holy Water flowing in America’s heartland.

  • St. Patrick’s Day Toast?

Enjoy some of Colum Egan, Master Distiller of Bushmills Irish Whiskey, favorite Irish toasts this St. Patrick’s Day.

The most important aspect of any toast is the words themselves, says Egan. The toasts are often short poems, mixing great tidings with a bit of whimsy and a large dose of Irish charm.â

A favorite of his is and mine:

May your blessings outnumber the Shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you wherever you go.… Read more

  • How Long Does Liquor Last?

Q: My sister gave me several bottles of Seagram’s VO. The tax seal says it was put on in 1982. It is still sealed, and the bottles says its 6 years old, that would make the whiskey 30 years old. How good is this whiskey? Is it drinkable?
    Jim G

A: Sealed bottles of whiskey and other spirits should last indefinitely when still sealed. Unlike wine, however, liquor does not age in the bottle, so … Read more

  • Happy Repeal Day

Every December 5th we pause to remember the passing of the 21st Amendment, thus ending Prohibition. Yea, FDR!

The nice folks at sent us this fun bit of history. Dewar’s Scotch was the first legal whisky to arrive in the US, hitting New York’s South Street Seaport docks the moment the law was put into action. Joseph Kennedy, Sr. (JFK’s father) happened to be the US agent for the brand.

We found this cool video … Read more
