This week’s drink comes from my new friend, and UC Davis grad, Jessica. The Wiki Wacky Woo (WWW) is a Davis tradition dating started in the late 1990s at Bar Bernardo. The WWW features all of your clear spirits (gin, tequila, rum & vodka), similar to a Long Island, except the use 151 and then add triple sec, amaretto and 3 fruit juices. Full of antioxidants, pomegranates have come back into fashion. Yes, I ate many a pomegranate as a kid in the ’70s. I loved them they could last for hours. They may be a bit tedious to eat, but they’re worth it. So is the martini version, only it’s less complicated because you can buy pomegranate juice in many places these days. This martini may actually be good for you!

This is one of the coolest inventions I’ve seen in a while. The Ice Jacket quickly encases a bottle of vodka or other beverage in a sheet of ice. Once removed from the freezer, it even has a nice stand, which catches the melting ice. Once I get my hands on one of these things I will let you all know how cold the vodka gets!

Diageo, the spirit giant, is testing mixed cocktails in 12-oz cans. These drinks are about the same alcohol content as beer and sport real booze, not clear malt.
The Tampa-area test involves four brands: Captain Morgan and cola, Smirnoff vodka and lemon-lime soda, George Dickel whisky and cola, and Seagram’s 7 American Whiskey and lemon-lime soda.
