    Kahlua Cinnamon Spice Review

    ByRachel Halpren November 8, 2011November 18, 2011

Kahlua recently launched a new flavor – Kahlua Cinnamon Spice – just in time to keep you warm for winter. It will be the perfect addition to almost any hot drink this winter whether it be coffee, hot chocolate or tea (I can’t vouch for the hot apple cider as I haven’t tried it yet).

I really like Kahlua and was a bit concerned when they started making the Kahlua spices line (like Vanilla, Peppermint … Read more

    Bloom London Dry Gin Review

    ByRachel Halpren November 3, 2011October 31, 2011

In August, Greenall’s, one of the oldest Gin producing firms in England, launched its newest libation – Bloom Gin. Bloom arrived in one of the most beautiful bottles we have seen in awhile – the slightest shade of green with crawling vines (both imprinted in the bottle and on the plastic enclosure at the top of the bottle). Luckily for us, Bloom was as tasty as the bottle was beautiful.

Greenall’s is one of the … Read more

Hob Nob 2010 Pinot Noir – Wine Wednesday

    ByRachel Halpren November 2, 2011December 2, 2011

We received a care package for Halloween from our friends at Hob Nob Wines with some vino and candy (two of our favorites). One of the wines was a 2010 Pinot Noir from the South of France (where after some research, it appears all the Hob Nob wines come from France). From reading this article, you may also remember how much I adore Pinot Noir wine and how difficult it is to find Pinot Noirs … Read more

Five Trends That Need a Eulogy

    ByJonas Halpren November 2, 2011December 28, 2011

In the spirit of Dia de los Muertos, the folks at Espolón Tequila thought it would be fitting to put to rest a few tired trends. We agree! We took Espolon’s idea and came up with our own list of drink trends that we would like to be to rest. Here are our top five drink trends we would like to bury in 2011:

White Whiskey –– we have been flummoxed by the White

A Few Drinks for Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

    ByJonas Halpren November 1, 2011December 28, 2011

Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead in English, is celebrated on November 1 & 2. The holiday originated in Southern Mexico before Europeans arrived. Over the two days, families celebrate their deceased loved one’s by holding celebrations and prayer in the cemeteries.  They also clean and decorate the graves, building altars and stocking them with offerings. The most common offerings are calaveras de azucar or Sugar Skulls, toys (for children) and mezcal, … Read more

Wine for Day of the Dead

    ByRachel Halpren November 1, 2011November 1, 2011

On a recent trip to Trader Joe’s, we came across a bottle of wine that we could not resist! As I have mentioned beore, I used to pick my wine based on the wine bottle. I will admit that I still indulge in this selection process when the wine is at a low enough price point. What can I say, I really like attractive and interesting wine bottles. I am not saying that all wine … Read more

    Pama Pomegranate Liqueur Review

    ByRachel Halpren November 1, 2011December 28, 2011

November is National Pomegranate Month. To kick off the month, we are posting a review of Pama Pomegranate liqueur. Pama is a good as it sounds (unless you are a pomegranate hater). Buy yourself a bottle and whip up pomegranate drinks all month long. The plus is that they make great drinks to serve guests for Thanksgiving.

Pomegranates are sensuous – they are ripe, lush and bursting with deep red fruit – and they scream … Read more

    Five Scary Wines for Halloween

    ByRachel Halpren October 28, 2011March 2, 2012

Until I really got into wine, I used to buy wine based on how much I liked the label. Sometimes this worked and sometimes it didn’t. Please keep that caveat in my mind as my recommendations for scary Halloween wines are based solely on the label. I found many apt named wineries (among them the Black Cat, Ghost Pines and Slaughterhouse) but I elected not to highlight them because the labels didn’t live up to … Read more

Zaya Gran Reserva 12 Year Old Rum Review

    ByRachel Halpren October 27, 2011November 26, 2012

I don’t know of many distilleries that move from one country to another. But when thinking of roving distilleries, a couple of famous ones come to mind. The Bacardi Family fled Cuba after Castro took control. Luckily they already had a distillery in Puerto Rico for tax reasons, so they moved the bulk of the operation there. Castro got to keep the original Bacardi distillery, where they now the Caney and Santiago Brands. Angostura Bitters … Read more

Tru (True) Blood: Not Just For Vampires Anymore

    ByRachel Halpren October 27, 2011March 2, 2012

I love, love, love True Blood. I have read all of the books, watched the TV shows and even attended True Blood fan events through the Paley Center (for all of you True Blood fans out there, Vampire Eric and Werewolf Alcide look as good in person). Imagine my delight when we received a couple of Tru Bloods in the mail. And just in time for Halloween!
