    15 (Other) Uses for Vodka

    ByThe Barkeep April 18, 2007March 21, 2012

These are real uses for vodka in Russia. I originally posted this last year after a friend sent it to me. Somehow, I managed to delete it while updating the photo. Never drink and code, I guess. So back by popular demand…

    15 (Other) Uses for Vodka

    1. To remove a bandage painlessly, saturate the bandage with vodka. The solvent dissolves adhesive.

    2. To clean the caulking around bathtubs and showers, fill a trigger-spray bottle … Read more

    Partida Tequila Review

    ByThe Barkeep April 14, 2007November 27, 2012

On a sunny San Francisco afternoon, I first appreciated the smooth mellow flavor of this superior tequila.

I first savored the deep rich flavor of the amber añejo. Delicious in its mellow tones, and yet sharp in its effect, this añejo should be a must for any lover of fine tequila.

Next, I enjoyed the enticing blanco. Sipping a shot made me think of those days long ago lounging in Tahoe enjoying spring! Light and … Read more

    ByThe Barkeep March 25, 2007March 21, 2012

This new book series by Lisa Brown is hillarious. In addition to bartending, the series lays out all sorts of chores you can have your 2-year-old perform. These include banking, making breakfast, and fixing the car.

Bartender’s Guide – A Cool Way to Drink & Serve Cocktails

    ByThe Barkeep March 24, 2007March 21, 2012

From Idealist, the “Bartender’s Guide” is an interactive display and information system. It communicates with the aid of the surface of the drinks serving counter in a cocktail bar. There concentric stripes around the cocktail glasses appear. Their graduated colors provide information about the ingredients of the drink.

There is also a similar idea to this called “iBar.” Here’s the link and a video of how it works:

    Drinking Guinness with Your Phone

    ByThe Barkeep March 23, 2007March 21, 2012

Imagine needing a Guinness (this happens often at DOTW) and finding it with your phone. That’s what mobile marketing company Naviblog and drinks maker Diageo had in mind, when they released “Guinness Navi” yesterday: a service that allows you to find your nearest Guinness-serving pub by just clicking on your phone. The service is available only in Tokyo for right now, apparently.

    Spring Cocktails

    ByThe Barkeep March 21, 2007March 21, 2012

Well, we made through another winter—and not a moment too soon. Having survived last week’s Northeaster in NYC, this barkeep is ready for the warm weather.

To help celebrate, our new friend Rebecca sent us four refreshing cocktails that evoke the brightness of spring. She was also kind enough to brave the storm and introduce me to some amazing cocktails at Sapa an extremely cool spot on 24th Street near Madison Park that serves French … Read more

    St. Patrick’s Day Toast?

    ByThe Barkeep March 13, 2007March 21, 2012

Enjoy some of Colum Egan, Master Distiller of Bushmills Irish Whiskey, favorite Irish toasts this St. Patrick’s Day.

The most important aspect of any toast is the words themselves, says Egan. The toasts are often short poems, mixing great tidings with a bit of whimsy and a large dose of Irish charm.â

A favorite of his is and mine:

May your blessings outnumber the Shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you wherever you go.… Read more

    ByJonas Halpren March 11, 2007February 23, 2013

Just arrived in time for St. Patrick’s Day. Tullamore Dew is a traditional Irish Whiskey, smooth and buttery in flavor. This smooth whiskey was first distilled in 1829 and the recipe had changed little since. It has a nose of lemon, spices with a slight woody undertone. It’s a taste is warming with a smooth, spicy finish.

    The Kegulator

    ByThe Barkeep March 8, 2007March 21, 2012

This tool at kegulator.com is key for planning a any party. The site is simple and easy to use. Next party I have, I’ll be testing the Kegulator out. For 100 people it suggests 4 kegs, 120 cups and 177 pounds of ice.

What is really cool about the Kegulator is the sliders, which let you choose the degree to which your guest willl be drinking. Based on you estimates, the site adjust the amounts … Read more
